2024 Publisher Retreat in Mexico Branding

I was tasked with event branding for an annual publisher retreat. The request was to develop graphic assets inspired by murals scattered throughout the resort. Described as a combination of a classy networking event and a rewarding experience for attendees, the goal was to capture the essence of both aspects in the visual elements.

Research & Planning

As the lead designer for this project, my responsibilities included compiling a comprehensive list of all required collateral and collaborating with stakeholders to establish deadlines on a calendar. Additionally, I played a key role in sourcing giveaway items for the project.

Inspiration

The resort has so many beautiful murals that can be found throughout the site. Using images from the resort’s social media accounts and website, we also sourced a few other images to use as references.

Developing the Centerpiece of the Branding

Based on our research, it appeared that many of the murals we found captivating featured subjects, patterns, and foliage. Initially, I began creating an image of a full-body crane adorned with patterns. However, I soon realized that the intricate details were overpowering the crane, and the overall imagery wasn’t as impactful as some of the inspiration we had gathered. Opting for a different approach, I abandoned that idea, leading to the creation of a much stronger piece. This close-up of a crane became a central element in most of the collateral.

Signage & Digital Deliverables

I designed and utilized a template for constructing the event signage. Additionally, we established a Google Site containing event details and the schedule, incorporating the brand assets. We also developed a template for the keynote presentation, ensuring consistency with the brand elements we had created.

On-Site Giveaway Items

We curated a set of custom items for the attendees’ swag bags, including a custom bag, notebook, phone protector, name tag, and lanyards. Unfortunately, the event-branded lanyards didn’t arrive in time, but everything else turned out exceptionally well!
