a silly hyperpop duo’s branding and identity (I make up 50% of the duo). Inspired by Mob Psycho 100 and V-Tubers, this was a fun side project for a fun side project.
Where does the name "dangling keys" come from?
The game, Fortnite, had recently come out with an update that filled the game lobbies with bots. People could identify the bots by their silly names. Many included some sort of adjective followed by a random noun. Some examples include; SublimeClown, GiantDaisy, NeonSalmon, TacticalFish. Among those names was DanglingKeys. Since I live for jokes, I immediately went to check the domain availability. The rest is history.
Research: V-Tubers & Y2K
My initial sketches for the logo ideation were admittedly horrible. I couldn’t get past the idea of having some image of a key within the logo. So I walked away from the logo process altogether until I stumbled across V-Tuber logos. V-Tubers are virtual YouTubers, content creators who appear to the public as an animated figure. Most of these creators have some sort of motion capture system so their characters track their own faces.
Visually, their aesthetics and branding tend to lean more Y2K. Their logos are very descriptive and encompass their personalities and I wanted that for our musical duo as well.

Website
Having just watched Mob Psycho 100, I was inspired by the website seen repeatedly throughout the series. The aesthetic is similar to an old school blog from the early 2000s. The dangling keys site is built on WordPress.
